Some Great Plants From The Niche................

The shortest day of 2013 has just passed bringing winter in the form of an east coast low so I thought I'd warm you up with a few photos of plants from The Niche:

Hippeastrum aulicum

One of the species Hippeastrums from South America. I managed to pollinate both flowers & now have ripening pods. A fast grower; divisions available in spring.

                                     Alcantarea heloisae & extensa

Plants flowering in my garden; the infloresences last for around a year & are around 2 metres in height. They grow around 1 metre in diameter & take full summer sun.
Good sized plants of extensa & A.glaziouana available from the nursery for $40 (below).

                                        Orchid Lillies (Tricyrtis)

Commonly called Toad Lillies; there's nothing toady about them at all so I've given them a more appropriate name that befits their flowers. Perennial plants that enjoy morning sun or shade, can die down over winter in cold or drier conditions. This one is Tricyrtis formosana 'Samurai'
